About RAE Motorcycle Training

In 1992 we started training people with just one Yamaha SR 125 and a Yamaha Virago,  we were surprised just how popular our courses were and quickly needed to expand.  We currently have over 60 Motorbikes, Scooters and Mopeds and usually have full classes every week.  Our aim is to make motorcycling appeal to everyone and have trained many people over the years, with the youngest being just 16 and the oldest an incredible 87.  As a family business, we pride ourselves on our friendly informal approach.  You'll find all of our instructors are patient and experienced, most importantly we won't rush you.

Our dedicated team of instructors are here to help you learn to ride the Motorcycle you choose.  It doesn't matter if you want the most basic of scooters or the latest ultimate sports bike, we are here to help.  We are a Driving Standards Agency approved training body and a member of the Motorcycle Rider Training Association.  There are many motorcycle training schools all over the country offering courses, which will vary in price, style and quality.  We are dedicated to maintaining our consistently high standard which is reflected in our high pass rate (over 90% - National average is around 70%).  So what's the secret?

Don't forget to ask about 1st time pass rate, class size, condition of  bikes and equipment.

  • Top Quality Instructors - We think we have some of the best instructors in the business and our customers agree.  We have numerous letters from satisfied customers commending our courses.  In fact most of our business comes from recommendations.  Our instructors also use bikes which are large enough (e.g. Honda Pan Europeans - ) to provide the road presence we think an instructor needs when working.  All our Instructors are Driving Standards Agency Approved and some have also passed the Institute of Advanced Motorists' (IAM) Advanced Riding Test.
  • Small Training Groups - We always ensure each student gets enough access to the instructor and therefore operate a policy of no more than 4 people per instructor for CBT, 3 people for standard training and just 2 for Direct Access.  You can also book one-to-one training if you would prefer exclusive tuition.
  • Modern Well Maintained Bikes - You'll find all our bikes are low mileage recently registered models   Many of our bikes are under a year old and we find this helps people get the hang of it quickly.  There's nothing worse than riding a dirty bike with a burnt out clutch or duff brakes.  We also use high quality radios with a good range.
Booking Your Training
Anyone wishing to take a Motorcycle test must pass the DVLA motorcycle theory test including the new hazard perception test before they take the practical test.  We recommend that you complete CBT first, since many of the topics are coverred during the training, wich will help you pass the test. The quickest way to make a test appointment is to ring DSA's national telephone number on 0870 010 1372 and pay the £18.00 fee by credit or debit card.  You can also book your theory test on-line

The test takes about an hour during which you are required to answer 30 out of 35 multiple choice questions correctly.  The hazard perception test comprises a selection of film clips, showing real road scenes and potential hazards. You  will be assessed on how soon you spot the dangers. Each candidate will be tested on 14 film clips chosen at random from a series of two hundred.  Why not test your knowledge now with our on-line test. It really isn't that difficult.
